Registered Training offers students a nationally recognised qualification and cross-industry skill recognition. Qualifications offered by the School of Volunteer Management (RTO National Code 90031) are:

Ways to Achieve Qualification
Each qualification comprises a specified number of units (subjects or topics), usually designated as “core” and “electives”, in which a student must be assessed “competent”. Obtaining “competency” in each of the units can be achieved in a variety of ways.
Importantly, a students existing experience, qualifications and skills are taken into account when determining the best method or methods of achieving their desired qualification. Students can achieve their qualification in one or a combination of three ways, each requiring a substantial time commitment:
- Satisfactory completion of formal course work and a work-based project
- Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
- Credit Transfer
If the qualification, in whole or part, is to be undertaken by formal course work then this will be by Distance Learning; students don’t attend lectures, workshops, etc, but study for themselves, not by themselves, with each student allocated a tutor on enrolment. This method provides flexibility and quality learning experiences for students, and is conducted with the same level of preparation and commitment as classroom based training.
If a student elects to complete one or several units or is not required to complete all the units to obtain the qualification, a Statement of Attainment, also recognised nationally, is issued for each unit of competency they successfully complete.
The tutor’s role is to encourage learning by developing a positive learning environment in which the student can successfully complete the course/unit within the agreed timeframe. After the initial discussion with the student, the tutor will have regular telephone and email contact with the student in accordance with the tutoring schedule they have agreed for each unit. Tutor contact is expected to be not less than monthly but may be more frequent as determined by the schedule. The student’s tutor will normally also assess their assessment assignments.
In late 2008 the School as assessed for re-registration as an RTO by the Vocational Education Training Advisory Board (VETAB) (replaced by ASQA on July 1 2011).
Employability Skill Summaries are now included in all Registered Training Courses. Employability Skills are defined as “skills required not only to gain employment, but also to progress within an enterprise so as to achieve one’s potential and contribute successfully to enterprise strategic directions”.
They are skills that are sometimes referred to as key skills, core skills, life skills, essential skills, key competencies, necessary skills, and transferable skills. Industry’s preferred term is Employability Skills.
There are eight Employability Skills: communication, teamwork, problem solving, initiative and enterprise, planning and organising, self-management, learning, and technology. Each qualification/Registered Training Course lists the element of each skill that applies to that qualification/course. An Employability Skills Summary for each qualification will be presented to every graduate.
