Certificate IV in Training and Assessment TAA40104 (RPL)
AimIf you are an experienced Trainer and Assessor and can demonstrate current knowledge and skill in training, assessment and delivery, you may be eligible for Recognition of Prior Learning. If you are an organisation and would like to enquire about RPL for your staff, please contact us to enquire about customisation of the RPL process for your specific needs. Target audienceThe Certificate IV in Training and Assessment TAA40104 is a requirement for gaining employment as a Trainer and Assessor within private and government Registered Training Organisations, and in a similar role within in organisations that are not RTOs. An emerging trend is for inclusion of training and assessing qualifications – or units therein - in ‘mainstream’ jobs across a broad variety of occupations and industries, especially not-for-profit organisations. RPL means that you will be providing evidence that you already have the skills and knowledge to the standards required of the Certificate IV TAA. The service is based on a portfolio and interview approach to RPL, where you accept the main responsibility for identifying, gathering and submitting evidence about your achievement of the competencies. Your application does not automatically mean you will be successful in all units. For those where you cannot provide evidence to the standards required, you can go on to study individual units at $150.00 per unit. While the main responsibility is yours, there will be support available to you by phone and email. On enrolment you will receive access to a unique online RPL tool which will assist you to select and save evidences online and map evidences automatically across the units. RPL should not be a difficult process providing you have access to proof that you are already competent in the units. The course is open to both full-time and part-time workers. |

Employability Skills
The application of Employability Skills – communication, teamwork, problem solving, initiative and enterprise, planning and organising, self-management, learning and technology – are holistically assessed in the evidence gathering techniques against the relevant industry approaches and employability skill framework. Unit One: Work effectively in VET
This unit specifies the competency required to work effectively in the policy and operating environment of the vocational education and training sector.
Unit Two: Foster and promote an inclusive learning culture
This unit addresses the responsibilities of all persons in a training and/or assessment organisation to promote a positive and inclusive learning culture which actively acknowledges, respects and builds on individual differences, and integrates principles which underpin inclusivity into all training and/or assessment practices. In this unit the principles of inclusivity are applied to working with both colleagues clients.
Unit Three: Ensure a safe and healthy learning environment
This unit provides a focus for occupational health and safety (OHS) in the vocational education and training sector. It covers the legislative and common law duty of care responsibilities of trainers/facilitators, assessors and other parties in the provision of training and/or assessment services.
Unit Four: Use Training Packages to meet client need
This unit specifies the competency required to use Training Packages and accredited courses as a tool to support industry, organisation or individual competency development needs.
Unit Five: Design and develop learning programs
This unit specifies the competency required to conceptualise, design, develop and evaluate learning programs to meet an identified need for a group of learners, using appropriate criteria. Criteria may include endorsed competency standards and other specifications such as organisational performance standards, product equipment specifications and workplace procedures.
Unit Six: Plan and organise group-based delivery
This competency involves developing a delivery plan that is used by the trainer/facilitator to guide and manage delivery to a group. It encompasses interpreting the learning environment and delivery requirements for the identified group of learners, developing session plans, and preparing and organising the resources required.
Unit Seven: Facilitate individual learning
This unit specifies the competency required to facilitate individual learning through a one-on-one relationship between a learner and facilitator.
Unit Eight: Facilitate work-based learning
This unit addresses the processes, skills and knowledge involved in using the work process and the work environment as the basis for learning in the workplace.
Unit Nine: Facilitate group-based learning
This unit specifies the competency required to facilitate learning by individuals within a group. The competency of delivering training and facilitating learning to a group involves preparing, guiding supporting and managing learners using a range of delivery methods, knowledge, skills and behaviours that enhance learning.
Unit Ten: Plan and organise assessment
This unit addresses the competence of planning the assessment process and making the organisational arrangements which enable assessment to occur. It includes assessments carried out as part of a Recognition of Prior Learning Process (RPL) or as part of a learning and assessment pathway.
Unit Eleven: Assess competence
This unit addresses the competence of conducting competency assessment in accordance with a developed assessment plan. It includes assessment for recognition of prior learning (RPL) or as part of a learning and assessment pathway.
Unit Twelve: Develop assessment tools
This unit specifies the competence required to develop assessment tools. An assessment tool is used to guide the collection of quality evidence in the assessment process. It includes the instruments for collecting evidence, based on the selected assessment methods and the procedures to be followed in conducting the assessment.
Unit Thirteen: Participate in assessment validation
This unit specifies the competence required to participate in an assessment validation process. Validation is a process involving assessors working in collaboration to review, compare and evaluate their assessment process and their assessment outcomes in relation to the same unit/s of competency. This includes validating assessment methods/tools, the evidence that was collected using these assessment methods/tools and the interpretation of that evidence to make a judgement of competence.
Unit Fourteen: Develop teams and individuals
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to determine individual and team development needs and to facilitate the development of the workgroup. This unit applies to individuals with a broad knowledge of learning and development who apply their skills in addressing development needs to meet team objectives. They may have responsibility to provide guidance or to delegate aspects of tasks to others.
Study choices
Recognition for the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is available by the following 2 options:
- Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
This is based on a portfolio and interview approach to RPL. Your application does not automatically mean you will be successful in all units. For those where you cannot provide evidence to the standards required, you can go on to study individual units at $150.00 per unit. RPL should not be a difficult process providing you have access to proof that you are competent in the units. - Combination of distance learning study and RPL.
Support
On enrolment each student is allocated an online tutor who will support the student throughout the course. Contact with the tutor will be not less than monthly and will be in accordance with the tutoring schedule agreed between student and tutor.
