Recruiting and Selecting Volunteers (1/2 day)

This workshop is similar to the one-day workshop Recruiting, Inducting and Managing Volunteers, but concentrates on the recruitment and selection of volunteers and covers these areas in greater depth. (Note: This workshop can also be conducted and a customised one-day workshop.)

Aim

To familiarise participants with simple and effective practices and processes associated with the recruitment and selection of volunteers, and introduce new concepts in these areas.

Topics include:

  • The profile of today’s volunteers
  • Assessing your organisations internal and external environment, to identify its “selling” points to volunteers
  • Identifying your organisations requirements for volunteers
  • Where and how to source volunteers
  • Specifying your organisations job requirements and expectations – the Position Description
  • Understanding the recruitment and selection processes
  • How and where to advertise
  • Effective selection interviewing – How good are you?
  • Assessing your applicants
  • Accommodating “potential”
  • Saying “No”
  • Identifying the needs and motivations of the applicants – Will your organisation and the position be able to satisfy them?
  • Review – the importance of continuous improvement
