Managing to Motivate and Retain Volunteers (1/2 day)
This workshop is similar to the one-day workshop Recruiting, Inducting and Managing Volunteers, but concentrates on the motivation and management of volunteers and covers these areas in greater depth. (Note: This workshop can also be conducted and a customised one-day workshop.)
Aim
To familiarise participants with simple and effective practices and processes associated with the motivation and management of volunteers, and introduce new concepts in these areas.
Topics include:
- The profile of today’s volunteer
- Identify the motivations and needs of volunteers and how best to satisfy them
- What is important in managing volunteers
- The culture of your organisation and its external environment – how these will impact on the motivation of the volunteers and on your management of them
- The skills the manager/leader requires to be an effective manager of volunteers. How do you rate?
- Managing different levels of performance
- Identifying your personality style
- The manager/leader as a coach
- The importance of recognising and rewarding volunteers, individually and collectively
- Action plan to improve your effectiveness
