Effective Induction and Orientation of Volunteers (1/2 day)
This workshop is similar to the one-day workshop Recruiting, Inducting and Managing Volunteers, but concentrates on the induction and orientation of volunteers and covers these areas in greater depth. (Note: This workshop can also be conducted and a customised one-day workshop.)
Aim
To familiarise participants with simple and effective practices and processes associated with the induction and orientation of volunteers, and introduce new concepts in these areas.
Topics include:
- The importance of effective induction and orientation
- Allowing the volunteer to take ownership of their program
- Developing an induction program for your organisation – covering the organisation, the area/department and the position
- Progressive reviews – giving and receiving feedback
- Identifying the positions key stakeholders and securing their positive involvement in the induction/orientation
- Using information gained during the recruitment process to advantage during induction/orientation
- Obtaining and evaluating feedback from stakeholders
- Review – the importance of continuous improvement
