New registered training course and qualification for the School & the Diploma of Management (BSB51107)

February 2009

The recently approved re-structure of the Business Services Training Package resulted in significant changes to the content of many courses, including the Schools popular Diploma of Business. To coincide with the release of the updated Business Services courses, the School decided to expand the range of registered courses it offers students, with the Diploma of Management being the first. Other courses to be offered in the coming months include:

  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (by July 2009)
  • Certificate II in Active Volunteering (by July 2009)
  • Certificate III in Active Volunteering (by July 2009)
  • Certificate IV in Volunteer Program Coordination (in 2009/10)
  • Diploma in Community Services Management (in 2009/10)

The new Diploma of Management is available now. Qualification required successful completion of eight (8) units, of which five are "core" or compulsory. A list of "core" and "elective" units are specified in the course materials but, in addition to those specified in the course materials, "elective" units can be selected from:

  • Any course in the Business Services Training Package (BSB07), e.g. the Diploma of Business, or
  • Any other currently endorsed national Training Package. One of those units, if not specified in the Diploma of Business course materials, may be selected from either a Certificate IV, for example, the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, or Advanced Diploma qualification.

Initially the School is offering the following units, all can be selected as "core" except Manage Conflict, which is from the Diploma of Business, but others will become available progressively over the following 18 months:

  • Ensure Team Effectiveness
  • Manage People Performance
  • Manage Conflict
  • Ensure a Safe Workplace
  • Manage Risk
  • Manage an Information or Knowledge Management System
  • Manage Budgets and Financial Plans
  • Facilitate Continuous Improvement

Other Diploma of Management units likely to be available in the future include:

  • Develop a Workplace Learning Environment
  • Manage Operational Plan
  • Manage Projects
  • Recruit, Select and Induct Staff
  • Manage Performance Management Systems
  • Develop Workplace Policy and Procedures for Sustainability

A number of units in the Diploma of Management come from the superseded Diploma of Business, so current holders of the Diploma of Business (BSB50101) and/or other qualifications can apply for Credit Transfer of those units to the Diploma of Management.  This will allow them to obtain the Diploma of Management by completing the remaining units (maximum of four) by either study or RPL or a combination.

Full details of the new Diploma of Management are now available on the School's website or you can contact Mark Tippett at the School to discuss your study options.
