SVM History

The Volunteer Centre of NSW (now The Centre for Volunteering) begun negotiations with the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) for the establishment of the NSW School of Volunteer Management in 1994.

In 1997 the School of Volunteer Management (SVM), a joint venture with UTS, accepted its first students and today offers registered training specific to volunteer management as well as broader business and fundraising training and qualifications for the not-for-profit sector. A senior member of the UTS School of Management academic staff sits on the SVM Advisory Committee.

The role of the School is to enhance the development of volunteering in the community by assisting organisations and individuals to maximise their potential through the provision of high quality education and training activities. The School is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) and is the training arm of The Centre for Volunteering.

The School continues to work closely with the sector and other educational institutions to ensure it is able to constantly meet the changing needs of the sector.
